2009 Quarterly Updates

First Quarter

Deployments

There were no deployments this quarter; however, KCIT did receive a call for services. KCIT made referrals to local resources.  KCIT outreached to one community but services were not needed at that time. 

 

Simulations:  The first simulation of 2008 was held in Trevose, Bucks County. Members reviewed and practiced the roles of facilitator and scribe during simulated Group Crisis Interventions.  Angela Keen facilitated and nineteen (14) members attended.

  

Outreach

A KCIT Overview was electronically sent to victim service organizations and crisis response teams across the state in celebration of the team’s 10th anniversary.

 

   

Second Quarter

Deployments

There were two (2) deployments this quarter, one in Dauphin and one in Philadelphia County .  Four (4) individuals received interventions.

KCIT provided referrals to local resources to one community in response to a request for assistance.

 

Trainings

One Basic 3-day Community Crisis Response Team training was held in June at State College . Twenty-five (25) participants completed the training including victim service professionals, mental health professionals, school personnel and law enforcement.  Jim Fouts and Patti Pearson co- trained.

 

Simulations

The “Training of Local Caregivers” simulation was held in Pittsburgh on May 7th.  Ten (10) team members attended.  Mary Jo Harwood facilitated.

 

Outreach

KCIT provided a workshop at the PA Chiefs of Police Association’s Annual conference in July. The workshop’s topic was about the role KCIT plays providing crisis response services to victims of crime throughout the state. Nineteen (19) Chiefs attended.  Members Victoria Sostack and Chief Bill Petures co-presented.

 

Third Quarter

Deployments

One KCIT team was put on standby in Allegheny Co. following an incident. KCIT was contacted for services in two communities however referrals were made to local resources in both incidents.  KCIT provided outreach in two communities following incidents that resulted in multiple victims

 

Simulations

A “Team Leader/ Team Manager” simulation was held in August in New Cumberland. Seven (7) members attended and Mary Achilles facilitated.

 

Fourth Quarter

Deployments

KCIT deployed a team to Schuylkill County in response to an incident of domestic violence resulting in homicides.  17 individuals participated in a GCI and 11 individual interventions were also provided.  KCIT deployed a team to Washington County in response to a bank robbery.  Two individuals received interventions. KCIT provided outreach to a victim services agency in the aftermath of a homicide to offer additional crisis intervention support if needed.

 

Simulations

A “Facilitator/ Scribe” simulation was held October 8th in Grantville.  Twenty (20) members attended and Jim Fouts facilitated.

 

Outreach

A KCIT workshop titled “Understanding the Alphabet Soup of Crisis Response” was presented at the Pathways Conference in November. Seventeen (17) conference participants attended. Fifty-nine members completed the annual KCIT member survey. CROS met in December to finalize transitional plans with COPCVO. The KCIT newsletter was emailed to its membership in December. As of 12/15, KCIT has a total of 119 members, 102 of whom are active (or 85%) and 17 of whom are inactive (or 15%).
